It became really obvious that he knew about skills we had never encountered yet and he was trying to re-spec to use them.

So the only explanation was the metagaming. That was when we all realized what was going on. gear that had nothing to do with his character in any way. The final straw was when he started demanding our gear for his character. I mean, this was all still right after Fort Joy. Figured he just needed to beef his character up a bit and then we could move on. We're all real-life friends, so we figured he'd chill out at some point and let us play. This was all really annoying, but we thought it might get better. we were literally just watching him play the rest of the game. Which we all legitimately enjoyed, even if the rest of the game was. So the only thing left for the rest of us was combat. He would get angry and call people stupid if anyone did anything that deviated from his plan. He was the only one who was allowed to explore. He forced us to let him do all the dialogues. He had so much meta-knowledge of the game that he would arrogantly insist that he was always right about steering the party in some particular direction. What happened first is that the rest of us realized we were no longer playing the game. He was taking all of the loot right off the bat.īy the fifth session, the host had started looking up the locations of every useful item for his character, all of the "correct" dialogue options, the strongest build for his character, and much more. #META GAME MOVIE#
Some works are more meta than others-the movie Birdman, for example, is a movie about an actor who played a superhero in a movie and who now tries to rekindle his career in theater, and that actor is played by an actor who really did play a superhero in a movie and is now trying to rekindle his career in a movie that looks more like a play than a movie.Looking for a Group to play with? Try this thread || Discussion Overview In its simplest form, a book in which a character is writing a book or a movie in which a character is making a movie can be described as meta. The self-referencing sense of meta seems especially popular in art. The self-reflection sense of meta has also given rise to the use of the word as a standalone adjective, where meta is used to describe something that’s self-reflective or self-referencing. One of the more popular uses of meta today is for the meaning best described by the formula “meta-X equals X about X.” So, if we take the word “data” for our X, and add the prefix meta- to it, we get metadata, or “data about data.” A meta-text is a text about texts, metacognition is thinking about thinking, and a meta-joke is a joke about jokes. But that’s still not the meta most of us come across today. When they used it, meta meant “beyond,” “after,” or “behind.” The “beyond” sense of meta still lingers in words like metaphysics or meta-economy. Meta is a word which, like so many other things, we have the ancient Greeks to thank for.
